John originally hails from Boise, Idaho where he spent the first 11 years of his life. He attended Amity Elementary School.
Shortly after he finished 5th grade, his family moved to Bristow, Virginia where they spent one year. John attended Marsteller Middle School for 6th grade.
Following that year, his family moved down to Culpeper, Virginia where they have remained ever since. John attended Culpeper Middle School and Culpeper County High School. In high school, John was active in extracurriculars. He played football all four years and was captain of the JV team as a sophomore and of the Varsity team as a senior. John was the first-chair trumpet player and section leader in the CCHS Concert Band every year except his freshman year. He was also active on the Academic Team, History Bowl team, and in the Debate Club which he co-founded his senior year.
John then attended the University of Virginia for college as an Echols Scholar, where he studied finance in the McIntire School of Commerce and double majored in economics in the College of Arts & Sciences. He took on various executive positions in his fraternity, the Sigma Phi Society, as well as the Virginia Fencing Club and Global Markets Group. GMG is a student-run, long/short investment fund where John worked his way up from an analyst position to a Fund Manager by his 4th year. John made Dean's List in four of his eight semesters at UVA and graduated with a B.S. in Commerce in May of 2020. Go Hoos!
After graduation, John began law school at Duke University. He held leadership positions in several organizations: he was President of the Federalist Society, Online Editor of the Duke Law Journal, VP of Finance for the Business Law Society, Athletics Commissioner for the Duke Bar Association, and a member of the Moot Court Board. John was also a LEAD Fellow and served as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council. In moot court, John was a Hardt Cup finalist in 1L, a Dean's Cup semifinalist in 2L, and a semifinalist at Tulane Law's Mardi Gras Invitational during 3L. Most importantly, John served as the keytar player of Duke Law's premier cover band, the Tears of Scrutiny. John was awarded the Justin Miller Award for Integrity at Duke Law's graduation.
In his (fleeting) free time, John enjoys hanging out with friends, relaxing with a cigar or pipe, reading William Faulkner novels or a good biography, and watching UVA basketball and the Washington Commanders.
